Your photos.
Your privacy.
PhotoCorral is designed around local photo management and local processing. This Privacy Policy explains what information is handled by the PhotoCorral desktop application and by the PhotoCorral website.
This Privacy Policy applies to the PhotoCorral Windows desktop application and the website at photocorral.app. For the purposes of this policy, references to “PhotoCorral”, “we”, “us” or “our” refer to the operator of the PhotoCorral software and website.
Who this policy covers
This policy explains how personal information may be handled when you:
- use the PhotoCorral desktop application;
- visit the PhotoCorral website;
- purchase PhotoCorral;
- contact PhotoCorral for support;
- download documentation or software; or
- otherwise communicate with us.
The information stored only inside your local PhotoCorral catalogue is different from information you intentionally provide to us through the website, checkout or support.
PhotoCorral is built around local processing
PhotoCorral is a Windows desktop application. Its core catalogue, organisation, viewing, People recognition and Semantic Search features are designed to operate locally on your Windows computer.
You do not need to upload your personal photo library to PhotoCorral in order to use those core features.
Photos you add to the PhotoCorral catalogue are managed on your own computer and storage rather than being automatically uploaded to a PhotoCorral-hosted photo service.
Photo and catalogue information
Depending on how you use PhotoCorral, the local catalogue may contain information associated with your photographs, including:
- file names and file locations;
- thumbnails and previews;
- dates and times;
- camera and image metadata;
- GPS or manually assigned location information;
- Collections and Subcollections;
- names you assign to people;
- face-recognition data used by the local catalogue;
- Semantic Search indexing information;
- editing information and created versions; and
- other catalogue organisation created by you.
This information is stored as part of your local PhotoCorral environment. PhotoCorral cannot respond to a request to delete information that exists only on your own computer and has never been transmitted to us.
People recognition and face data
PhotoCorral can detect faces, group similar faces and let you associate names with people in your catalogue.
The face-processing information used for these PhotoCorral features is designed to be generated and used locally on your Windows computer rather than being sent to PhotoCorral for cloud face recognition.
You control the names and corrections assigned to people in your catalogue. Because photographs may contain other individuals, you are responsible for using People features in accordance with any privacy laws or obligations that apply to you.
Semantic Search is designed to work locally
Semantic Search allows you to search the catalogue using words describing subjects or scenes visible in photographs.
The search indexing and matching used by this feature are designed to run locally on the Windows computer. Your photo library does not need to be uploaded to PhotoCorral merely to perform Semantic Search.
Information collected through the website
When you visit photocorral.app, normal website and server systems may process technical information required to deliver, protect and operate the website.
This may include information such as:
- IP address;
- browser and device type;
- operating system;
- pages or files requested;
- date and time of access;
- referring page where available; and
- technical or security log information.
This information may be processed by our website hosting, security, content-delivery or other infrastructure providers where necessary to provide and protect the website.
Purchases and payments
When you purchase PhotoCorral, the checkout process may collect information required to process and fulfil the order. This can include your name, email address, billing information, order information and transaction status.
Payment processing may be provided by third-party ecommerce or payment service providers. Those providers process payment information according to their own privacy policies and security practices.
PhotoCorral may receive information necessary to confirm the purchase, provide the product, maintain transaction records, provide support and comply with applicable accounting, tax or legal obligations.
Sensitive payment-card details are intended to be handled by the payment service used during checkout rather than being used as part of the PhotoCorral desktop catalogue.
Support emails and communications
If you contact us at support@photocorral.app, we receive the information you choose to send.
This may include your email address, name, description of the problem, technical information and any files or screenshots you voluntarily attach.
If a support request can be explained without sending personal photographs, we recommend doing so. Remove unrelated personal or sensitive information before sending files whenever practical.
Support information is used to respond to your request, investigate problems, improve support and maintain reasonable records of the interaction.
Cookies and similar technologies
The PhotoCorral website may use cookies or browser storage that are necessary for functions such as website operation, security, preferences, session management or ecommerce.
Third-party services used by the website, such as hosting, checkout, security or embedded services, may also use cookies or similar technologies according to their own policies.
Website cookies do not provide PhotoCorral with access to the private photographs or catalogue stored on your Windows computer.
When information may be shared
We do not sell or rent personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
Information may be disclosed only where reasonably necessary, including:
- to service providers that help operate the website, ecommerce, email, hosting, security or support systems;
- to process or fulfil a transaction requested by you;
- where required by law, court order or valid legal process;
- where reasonably necessary to protect users, PhotoCorral, our systems or the rights and safety of others; or
- as part of a legitimate business transfer, merger, restructuring or sale, subject to applicable privacy obligations.
Service providers are permitted to process information only for the functions for which they are engaged, subject to their agreements and applicable law.
How long information is kept
Information received through purchases, support or the website is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the product or support, maintaining security, resolving disputes and meeting legal, accounting or tax requirements.
Information stored only in your local PhotoCorral catalogue remains under your control on your own computer and storage.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights concerning personal information we hold about you, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or other information about how it is used.
To make a privacy request concerning information held by us, contact support@photocorral.app .
We may need to verify that the request relates to you before disclosing or changing personal information.
If information exists only inside PhotoCorral on your own computer, it is not held on PhotoCorral’s servers. You control that local data through your computer, PhotoCorral catalogue and backups.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the information and services we operate. However, no internet transmission, computer system or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You are responsible for protecting your Windows account, computer, storage devices and backups against unauthorised access or loss.
Service providers in other countries
Website hosting, email, ecommerce, payment or other service providers may operate infrastructure in countries different from your own.
Where personal information is processed internationally, it may be subject to the laws of the country in which the relevant service provider operates, subject to protections required by applicable privacy law.
Children’s privacy
PhotoCorral is a general-purpose photo management application and is not designed to intentionally collect personal information from children through the PhotoCorral website where parental or guardian consent would be legally required.
A photograph stored privately by a user may of course contain children. Those photographs remain part of the user’s local photo collection unless the user chooses to transmit them elsewhere.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when PhotoCorral, the website, legal requirements or the services we use change.
When the policy is updated, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be changed. Material changes may also be communicated by other reasonable means where appropriate.
